About us
ALTTERRA was founded to blend Armenia's ancient winemaking traditions with modern practices. In partnership with one of oldest wine houses in Switzerland, ALTTERRA focuses on cultivating indigenous grape varieties in the Vayots Dzor region. Committed to organic farming, we produce wines that reflect the rich heritage and promising future of Armenian viticulture.
History
A Swiss wine house and Armenian soil
ALTTERRA was founded by one of the most renowned and oldest wine houses in Switzerland - St. Jakobskellerei Schuler & Cie AG Schwyz (founded in 1694) and Armenian partners. In 2017-2019, we acquired 50 hectares of old vineyards, and in 2022-2024, we planted 20 hectares of new vineyards. The company works exclusively with local indigenous varieties such as Areni, Tozot, Voskehat, Khatouni, and White Areni. Since 2023, the company has transitioned to organic agriculture, certificate expected in 2026.
